The Sony MHC-EC709iP Mini Shelf System is ideal when you want a lot of excellent audio from a compact device. It's literally small enough to sit on a book shelf (or kitchen counter or a lot of other tight spots) but with two speakers that put out a total of 360 watts RMS of audio impact it's sure to be heard, if not immediately seen.
The EX709iP's CD player can play MP3 files from CD-R and CD-RW discs in addition to conventional CDs. If want some variety turn to the AM/FM tuner for some talk or music. You can preset 10 of your favorite AM channels and 20 of your favorite FM channels.
Your EX709iP has a clock and both sleep and wake timers so you can drift off to sleep with music and wake up to it too. The system also has inputs so you can plug in other devices, but for iPods and iPhones it's got a flip-down dock that's compatible with most recent models. The included remote can control your iPod or iPhone in addition to the radio and CD functions.
So how's the sound? Excellent. Each two-way speaker has both a tweeter and a woofer, the EQ function enhances the audio output for different kinds of music and when you really want to rattle the windows turn on the DSGX Bass Boost.

Value for Price Performance Quality We bought this unit to listen to tunes on the patio and it works great. The audio quality is outstanding for such a small unit. We have only had it for a month so I can't speak to reliability but it seems solidly built. It does have a 3.5mm plug for external audio which we use to stream iTunes and Sirius satellite over an Apple Airport WiFi and it works very well. The volume and sound quality are great even to higher volumes with almost no distortion that I can hear. It's a bit odd to me that the 3.5pm plugin is at the front versus the rear and it's known as the PC-in audio source but that's a small complaint. We are very pleased with this purchase and B&H pricing [...] was excellent.Would you recommend this product to a friend? Definitely yes

Value for Price Performance Quality My unit was basically a test stereo for all of my speakers. By doing this, most would collapse and simply be overloaded. With this unit, by unplugging the cord, the unit is perfectly usable again. This lasted me FOREVERWould you recommend this product to a friend? Definitely yes
