Value for Price Performance Quality I am very pleased with this laptop. It has the same advantages as a netbook -- lightweight and long battery life. But the solid state hard drive makes this thing fast. Plus the Core2Duo processor and 13" screen are big steps up from the 10.1" netbooks. The magnesium case adds a sturdy feel without adding weight.
Before purchase, I had some reservations about the chiclet-style keyboard. But I like this keyboard. There is enough key movement and tactile feedback to facilitate touch typing. There are thoughtful features -- I particularly like the Caps Lock light located on the Caps Lock key. A 13" laptop is about as small as you can get and still have a usable keyboard. There is also a good Synaptics touch pad. (Never buy a laptop with an ALPS touch pad!)
If your WIFI network is fast, this thing can take full advantage of it. It supports wireless-N 5 GHz connections and feels faster than other 5 GHz devices I have used. It almost feels like a 1 gigabit wired connection.
Of course, the Envy 13 costs a lot more than a netbook. I got the price down by purchasing a manufacturer's refurb. I had never done that before, but the laptop arrived in like-new condition. I have been using it for about three weeks without a hint of trouble. You can purchase a 2 year extension to the warranty, including accidental damage protection, for about $120. That just about eliminates the risk of purchasing a refurb.
Disk space is a little tight -- 133 GB on the C: drive. The Recovery and HP Tools partitions take up the rest of the 250 GB nominal drive space. But the speed of SSD makes this a reasonable tradeoff.
There aren't a lot of connectors available -- just two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI video jack, and a headphone jack. One should expect that in an ultraportable. The speakers have a good sound, although the volume is limited. There is a built-in video camera and microphone.
This laptop has the power for serious computing with excellent portability.

Quality Value for Price Performance Ultra-portable (very lightweight!). I love the speed (is a true "speed demon!"), the graphics (the colors on this screen are the best I've ever seen!); and the bluetooth availability! Edge-to-edge glass so nothing gets in the way of your "viewing real estate," and the fan is super quiet; I barely hear it when it comes on!
The HP touchpad leaves something to be desired (most likely they fixed this issue with the HP Envy 14 & 17), but I use a bluetooth mouse. The keyboard is okay; I really like the Sony & Lenovo keys...they are a better fit for typing.
Great purchase; so far I am satisfied.
